Generation GIGO!

gigo : short for ‘garbage in - garbage out’. according to wikipedia, the term is used in any field where it is difficult to create a good result when given bad input, amongst other meanings.

In the Nigerian educational system, it is a term used to describe cramming poorly prepared and obsolete course materials (a.k.a handouts) as well as barely intelligible and disprovable lecture notes for the singular purpose of pouring them out in tests and exams with the outcome of maximum grades / lecturer commendation at the expense of actual knowledge and evidence of actual cognition of the course material and concepts.

Does that sum it up? Okay, in lay man’s terms…

‘if you want to graduate with a good grade, cram your handout and pour it out on the day of exam - word for word!’

How is this affecting the next generation of so called ‘nigerian professionals?’ Comments please.

  1. i like that powerful comment.the so called Nigerian professionals to be are not been harnessed properly and that is the problem we are having in this country of ours.the so called lecturers are only interested in selling their manuals or textbooks and that is all.
please for the country to move forward that habit to cease.
please an orientation should be done for our lecturers, knowing fully well that any action that we make today must have an effect tomorrow either for good or for bad.
