Playing to the gallery… plus shout out to Zimbabwe

I have been very busy combining a vigorous academic schedule, social engagements, house / room chores with fighting the apathy that seems to come over me ever so often. This is why I have not posted anything substantial for a little while, save for the notifications about scholarships and essays.

I have decided not to allow myself to get sidetracked by the great interest in these topics at the detriment of what I really want to do with this blog. Really, giving folks the hook up on important info is great, but I don’t think I want this blog to become a home for academic bounty hunters (and I mean that in the nicest way possible). This decision is not because I have recieved complaints or negative feedback. Quite the contrary, I have recieved a great number of comments over the past few weeks, alot of them full of gratitude and compliments for the site. While I am humbled by all the attention, I realise that I am falling into a pattern that is all too familiar. The pattern is that of playing to the gallery at all costs.
As a student, it is very easy to get sidetracked by all the activity that goes on in and outside the university. fellowship meetings, association meetings, dance rehearsals, parties, hanging out, more parties, lurking around the girl’s hostel, even more parties etc Personally, I have always refrained from getting myself into stuff I cannot handle. That does not necessarily mean that I have gotten myself into the right things! Somethings are good to engage in, but ultimately that is not the point. How do those activities tally with your primary goal for being in the university. They may have a direct or indirect impact, but you can never make the icing into the cake. In summary, when you try to play to the gallery, the gallery ends up playing you.

Shout out to the visitors from Zimbabwe, I look forward to initiatives that can further collaboration among African undergraduates. nice one!
